MORE DEXDRIVE SAVES
Well I've been looking through my controller paks again and found a few
SRAM saves as well as normal controller pak saves, here's what I've got
for you this time.
Click here to check out our DexDrive page.

TOOL: N64 ROM RENAMER V2.1
This is a tool which tries to find the country and the full name of a ROM using the
internal ROM-id, a CRC1-method if necessary and a database (roms.ini). With this data
a filename is generated and you have the option to rename the rom to this filename.
Here is what is new in this version:
- fixed a bug that caused a short flashing at the start (no real bug ;-)
- bugfix in the CRC1-Method which sometimes reported some N64-ROMs as unknown (e.g. Pokemon Snap)
- Zelda v1.1 is now recognized correctly and no longer as normal Zelda (via CRC1-Method)
- ROMs with countrycode X are now correctly recognized as PAL-Australian (before unknown country)
- improved the errorhandling routine - now clear an better errormessages
- enhanced the CRC1-Method. Every ROM can now be recognized theoreticly, no more unidentificable ROMs !
- internal CRC1-Database and external ROM database enhanced to 462 ROMs total
- new "About"-Dialogue
- Check at the start if the roms.ini is there
In this version 413 ROMs are recognized via roms.ini and another 49 ROMs by using the
special CRC1-method. That makes total diffrent 462 ROMs, no matter which country they
are from. If you say that every ROM is avilable in three different country versions
(Euro, USA and JAP, sometimes also Germany) then the total number of recognized ROMs
is 1386.
Click here to download the tool (english) or here for a german version.

MORE DEXDRIVE SAVES
Well its time to expand the DexDrive archive a little, so here's some new saves for:
While backing up some of my Memory cards and transfering data to other carts I noticed that
the SRAM from Rogue Squadron didnt screw up under the transfer from the Blackbag Memory
Manager (Controller pak) -> dexplorer -> Memory Manager (controller pak). Though the only
way to back up the SRAM to the PC is to have the DexDrive do a backup of the entire controller pak (use the
backup button) and then when you want the SRAM back on a cart you cant just drag and drop the
SRAM data, but you need to use the "restore" option which will transfer the entire controller
pak save back on the controller pak. You can ofcourse delete all the other saves before restoring
the controller pak backup, but remember once you deleted them they're gone forever unless you
still have the saves on a controller pak or in another dexdrive backup file. Also beware, the
restore option deletes everything on the controller pak before uploading the backed up
dexdrive save. I've tested this more than once, and it WORKS!! =)

DONKEY KONG 64 TV COMMERCIAL
Yeah well I just snapped the Donkey Kong 64 commercial off the german MTV and umm well it
looks like a US commercial with voices dubbed, bleh. Click here to go to the magazine and
tv commercials page.

N64 TV COMMERCIAL
I noticed this N64 commercial on MTV Germany the other day, I popped in a tape today while
they ran Select MTV and woop there it was. Click here to go to the ads
section. I'm told that a Donkey Kong 64 commercial is being shown too, I'll do my best
to grap that one too.
N64 ON SALE IN DEMMARK AND GERMANY
Well it seems that some stores are clearing out the N64 stock, to get room for? Well anyway
you Danes might wanna check out "Merlin", I went there yesterday and grapped Body Harvest
for $14 (99,95), they had one more game available in Aalborg (Quake at $21 - 149,95), but who
knows they might have more available elsewhere.
I've just spent 14 days near the Danish-German border and went to Flensburg where I noticed
that "Karstadt" had serveral N64 titles, Virtual Chess, NHL Hovkey '99 and uh well cant
remember the rest but there was 5 or so titles to choose from. They were priced $17 (30 D-Marks).
In case you're interested in SNES they had serveral SNES Titles, Harvest Moon, Terranigma, Donkey
Kong Country 1-2-3, Yoshi's Island, Super Mario All-Stars, The Great Circus Mystery and more
priced $11 (20 D-Marks) each.
HINTS FOR BODY HARVEST
If you havent played this game yet I suggest you do so. I've been stuck on level 2 for some
time now and just began playing the game again. On level two there's a door underneath a
giantic statue which cannot be opened and I had no idea of what to do, until now. There's a
mountain near the statue and on top of it there's a cave with something called
"the sun shield". You need the sun shield to light a torch the statue is holding. To do that
press Down on the D-Pad and thoose the Shield, then hold down the R button and point the
target just above the torch and hit Z, the torch will start burning and you'll be able to
enter the door below the statue.
Hoe to get the Cog from the Miller? Shoot the "wings" off his mill and you're able to grap it.
Remember to give the Cog to the guy on the other side of the lake (where you found the boat).
He will then be able to fix the watergate and you'll be able to move on! (yey). Use the boat and
turn right once you're through the watergate... go as far as you can to the right and you'll
con to an island, kill (destroy) all the cannons etc and then kill the giant dragon thingy
(I used the Shield to kill it heh, went damn fast).
Well this became a quick FAQ for Level 2 of Body Harvest, heh. I'd love to post some DexDrive
SRAM saves, but unfortunately there's no tool which backs up SRAM correctly yet, if ever.

even a scan of the cover. click here to enter the page. Check

DEXDRIVE REVIEW
Yes! I finally finished the DexDrive review which was supposed to be here weeks ago, but uh
well.. erh nevermind, just read it k? :)
TOOLS: N64 ROM INFO V2.0
Einstein II has released a new version of his N64 rom utility which tries
to find the country and the full name of a ROM using the internal ROM-id
and a database (roms.ini). With this data a filename is generated and you
have the option to rename the rom to its long filename. It currently knows 412
commercial games, demos and homebrewn games. This verson has the following changes:
Bugfix when reading the headerdata:
Some N64 ROMs were not recognzized as N64 ROMs in the previous release, and are now:
- Shadows of the Empire
- Star Wars E1 POD Racer
- NBA Hangtime
- New Tetris
- Quake 64
- Cruisin USA
- Doom 64
Batchmode (yeah !)
UltraHLE-like filenames (spaces are replaced by _)
Statistics after batchmode
Correct name of the fileformat:
Byteswapped = Dr. V64 Format, normal = Mr.Backup Z64 Format
CRC1-Method, this is good for recognizing roms that have the same internal name,
Pokemon Snap Station is no longer recognized as Pokemon Snap
ROM-Database enhanced (422 ROMs are recognized) and
different versions of the internal ROMnames were added
so the recognitionrate is much higher.
I dont really think this tool is of much use to anyone really, I personally could care less,
but well here you have it.
MORE HOMEBREWN GAMES AND DEMOS ADDED
Well i grapped a few more demos from the CD as well as a game by Charles Doty called
Sporting Clays which is ok actually, click here to check out the demos and games page. Please
note that there are no commercial games there, and dont ask! please.

PERFECT DARK NEWS
The day we're finally able to play Perfect Dark is comming closer and closer and here's
some news about the game. A new feature in the game is that you now is able to play
the game as 2-player co-operative which means that 2-player, Joanna Darks sister, will
be able to help Joanna through the game but also play against eachother, where one has to
stop the other from completeing the missions.
Perfect Dark now requires the Expansion Pak to play the "story mode" but not the "battle
mode" or ehatever they'll be called.
European gamers should have the game by the end of April, Americans probably a bit sooner.
A word is also out that Rare is releasing a Gameboy Color version of Perfect Dark which
should include 15 minutes of speach, hrmmmm.

SCREENSHOTS FROM THE NEXT N64 RELEASES
Harrier 2001 (source: ign64.com)
Mario Party 2 (source: ign64.com)
SEQUEL TO OLD NES GAME COMMING SOON
Well who doesnt know Track & Field and who hasnt played it on the NES till their fingers
hurt? Well I did atleast. The new N64 version is called International Track & Field and
will be the first "athletic" game on the N64. I havent play the game yet, since it aint out
March, but judging by the screenshots it looks ok, but we all know how bad controlls were
in Nagano Winter Olympics, hmm? Anyway, the game will use the exp. pak for better graphics and
will feature a lot of events to compete in.
For more info, check out ign64's preview.
COLOR'D N64S GETS US RELEASE TOO
They've been out for a few months in Europe, but with no sign of a US release, but at CES Nintendo
announced that that the lineup of different colored "see-thru" N64s will arrive in US stores
around 21 February. The colors are smoke (gray), ice (blue), fire (orange), jungle (green),
watermelon (pink), and grape (purple). The system comes with a matching controller and a
suggested retail price of $99.95.
Source: VideogameFans (www.videogamefans.com)
USE A N64 CONTROLLER WITH YOUR PC
This may be aimed at emulation freaks mostly, but this cable is actually also a new cool, and
cheaper, way to upload controller paks to the PC instead of using the DexDrive. The thingy is
called adaptoid and is a cable with a female N64 plug in one end and a standard USB plug at the
other end. It will allow the use of both Rumble and Controller Pak with emulators such as
UltraHLE but also allows upload of Controller Pak saves to the PC using and explorer window and
"drag & drop".
The price might seem a bit too much some might say, $29,95, but if you looks at it
this way; A DexDrive is today $19.99 at ebworld.com and then there's $10 for the cable itself,
well then it doesnt sound too bad, that is IF you're using emulators, which most of us probably arent,
hmmm? heh.
For more information, please visit www.wishtech.com.
THE MISSING DEXDRIVE REVIEW
Oops, seems like I updated just a bit too fast and forgot to add the DexDrive review, well
It will have to wait until I return home.
BUNG UNDERCOVER?
Well seems like Bung has formed a new company, check out their website
here.

FACE LIFT AND NEW NAME
Well a well deserved facelift has been made as well as a new, and imo better, name is
now carried by 64zine. The site is being totally redone and much new material will be added
over the next weeks, so keep visiting :)
DEXDRIVE SAVES ARRIVES
Yes! I finally got my hands on a DexDrive, it turns out it was WAS/IS released in Europe
without being advertised much though. Anyways I like this little unit a lot, eventhough
it gets screwed up by some unlicensed controller paks, well read my review of the DexDrive
here.
Our DexDrive page will feature both controller pak saves, but unfortunately there is no
program yet which will dump the SRAM correctly so that it wont be screwed up by the DexDrive
once it's being dumped to the PC. I've tested BlackBag's SRAM Manager V2.0 which should be
able to do the job, but when you upload a SRAM from the PC to the DexDrive and then from the
Controller Pak to the N64 cart, the SRAM Manager doesnt recognise the SRAM anymore and claims
its just a normal controller pak save which cannot be uploaded to the SRAM on the cartridge.
Click here to check out the DexDrive page.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Yey! We're now in the year 2000 without a lot of those problems many people predicted. Your
copier wont stop working, since it doesnt know which day, month or even year it is. This
might be the last year with N64 stuff tho, so lets hope it'll be a good one.

THE Y2K DEMO
WT_Riker, of Obsidian, has created a Y2K demo which goes under the motto "The last demo coded in 2000, The first demo released in 2000!".
Btw, the mod used, isnt it the old "Guitars" mod? Shame the sound is so bad on a PAL TV, using a V64 with the 3D Spatializer thingy switched off.
