STARCRAFT64 BETA CD64 FIX
Here's a fix made by Shronk for the beta release of StarCraft 64. He claims that some
backup units are confused by this rom, but as far as I know neither the Z64 or V64 have
had any problems running this rom and the fix is only tested on a CD64. Anyway, here's
a StarCraft 64 fix for the CD64 owners, dont bother downloaing it if you dont have a
CD64.

PROBLEMS WITH YOUR RIDGE RACER 64 SAVE?
Well as far as I've heard the game features double eeprom for saving, which means you
cant use a normal SRAM cart (Mario64, WaveRace64 and your DX256) or even the DS1 cart,
it will claim it saves successfully, but it actually doesnt save at all and you get that
"corrupted save" on the startup screen. What you need to do is get a cartridge with double
eeproms, like Star Wars Episode 1: Pod Racer, and use it for saving.
PERFECT DARK DELAYED AGAIN
It has announced by Nintendo that Perfect Dark has been delayed, again. It was originally
supposed to be out in December 1999, but was then delayed to April 11. Well the
new release date is May 22. What did they have to say about this? "Both Rare and Nintendo
are committed to only releasing the highest quality products and this extra development
time will allow the game to be everything Nintendo 64 owners have come to expect."

MY MEETING WITH DOSHIN THE GIANT
|
I had this totally freaked dream last night where I got to meet Doshin the Giant, the
N64DD mascot dude. Anyway, I was sightseeing in this old coalmine which was stuffed with
old figures made out of stone, dunno why I went there, but I did. While looking around I notice
a huge box behind one of the figures. There's a fence infront of the figure preventing
people from getting too close, if they were touched they would break. Well I wait until
there's noone else near me and I climb the fence, find my way to the box and open it and there
woop a ton of old Nintendo 8bit carts. Hmmm I wonder what they were doing there, but I leave
the box where I found it (what the hell am I thinking! I collect these things!) and start
looking at this "art" stuff again (erh!).
Suddently I notice this rather tall fella hiding way back behing the fence in the "do not
enter area". I cant remember who I just saw, but know that I've seen him somewhere before,
so I decide to follow him, but making sure that he doesnt see me. Problem tho, I have to
pee but luckly the dude is moving towards the entrance of the mine. Somehow I leave the
mine before the tall guy does and I do what I have to do behind a candystand near the
entrance. Wow! then he leaves the mine and I finally get a good look at the guy and its
DOSHIN THE GIANT wearing a read and white stiped T-Shirt. Hmm so thats why I didnt recon him
at first, cause he looked like Waldo (as in Where's Waldo).
Seems like Doshin had to pee to cause he's running the best he can towards some trees and
a bit later a giantic "aaaah!" (sounding like thunder) is heard. Now this old lady comes
running towards me screaming something, which I get to make the sense of a bit later. Seems
that her husband have had a heartattack on the Parking lot. Meanwhile DOSHIN is done and
walks towards me and the lady. I tell the woman to shut up and graps DOSHIN's arm and asks
him for a N64DD brochure... Well my alarm clock goes off and I woke up. Grrr! now I dont know
if he agreed to give me that brochure or not.
Well if you'll excuse me, I'll go get mental help now....
|
N64DD PAGE STARTED
Hmm its rather hard to find some decent N64DD material one the net, either the page which
used to have some doesnt exist anymore or the stuff actually there is hopelessly outdated.
So Doshin have inspired me to start a N64DD page. (click here to enter).
Also it seems almost impossible to get a N64DD if you live outside Japan, which is a shame
for us collectors and others interested in the disk drive. There is one place here in the
western world selling the unit, Madeiragames, but when the price is around $1200 is gets
a bit out of my range (plus considering the DD is around $300 in Japan). Also, as far as I
know both Mario Paint (Mario Artist) and Doshin the Giant (yeeehaw!) and packed with the
unit (I'm 100% sure it is actually), but when/if you order from Madriragames you only get
Mario Paint, so my question is.. what happens to the Doshin game which I actually pay for?

A BUNCH OF HARDWARE AND ACCESSORY INFO ADDED
Check it out here.
ABOUT THE RROW ROM FIX
Zodi of The Corporation made me aware that 2 from the Menace group and 2 The Corp guys
once each seperately dumped Rocket Robot On Wheels and all 4 dumps had the same error and they
had been dumped with different backup units.
It could've been a bad production or maybe in this new version they didnt change the number
(version 1.1).

RAREWEB SCREWED UP
the following is an article posted on rareweb, not the official rare site but a fan site (http://rareweb.datadynehq.com/home.shtml),
about a Perfect Dark rom being dumped:
Yes, on a short visit to my freinds house yesturday, he showed me a currupted Perfect Dark
rom on his PC. You Started off in the middle of a dataDyne corridor, with a Mauler, whitch
isn't even suppost to be in that level, then 20 seconds later it crashes, and thats it. But
boy, first impressions are great! it has no sound and you only encounter 1 enemey, wearing
red and looking like a scientist guy. But I dont have a good 3D card on my PC, so I cant
play it. I have no idea how these people got the rom out of ects, but they had DK64 and JFG
Toys 'R us roms months agotoo, so they must be skilled in espionage :) Got any PD Rom
questions? mail us! (espio@htloz.com)
First off, why would this rom ever end up in the hands of an emu user when it aint even
available to the scene public. Also, Toys R Us etc never carried this demo rom because
of the huge delay of Perfect Dark, so the demo rom was never distributed. Why the demo
craches so suddently? well it wouldnt, it's just those crappy emulators. Openly admit that
you play illegal roms, clever clever.
Anyway, feel free to mail them about this, mail address above.
TARZAN DEXDRIVE SAVE
Well I've been playing this game a bit and its actually not that bad. I've made a small compilation of controller pak saves, one save after each
completed stage, and the last save lets you start off at the final stage in
the game, the "conflict with clayton". Click here to go to the Tarzan
DexDrive page, or here to do to the DexDrive main page.
FIX FOR ROCKET ROBOT ON WHEELS (US VERSION)
Remember how the dump of RROW US version had messed up graphics in one of the stages. Well
it turns out that TC's dump was bad, what again heh, but here's a fix from
the "oldskool" team to correct that.

INFOGRAMES ABOUT THE CANCELLED TEST DRIVE RALLY
I talked to Infogrames of North America the other day and asked the dude why they cancelled
this impressive looking N64 game, here's the only thing he had to say.
The title has been cancelled on that platform.
Wow, some companies are just so incredibly informative, geez. Well I probably should've asked
them for the latest beta huh? :)

MORE INFO ON THE DEXDRIVE DUMPING SRAM PROBLEM
Remember I once found out how the dexdrive would copy SRAM dumped with the Blackbag SRAM (Memory)
Manager v2.0 from the controller pak to the PC and back. Well I just noticed why the dexdrive
will screw up the SRAM if you dont use the "backup" button, but just the drag and drop. It
seems that the problem lies in the DexPlorer software which doesnt copy the extension of a
file if you use "drag & drop". The Blackbag program, as far as I know, gives sram saves an
.srm extension (.s seen in the WaveRace controller pak manager) and because the DexPlorer software
throws away the .srm extension the Blackbag SRAM Manager doesnt recognize the SRAM when its
being uploaded to a controller pak from a Dex PC file. However when you do a complete "backup"
of a controller pak, the DexPlorer doesnt throw away the extension and the SRAM is readable
when being restored back on a controller pak.

NICE GIFTS WITH THE LATEST ISSUE OF N64 MAGAZINE
|
If you havent already noticed, the latest issue of N64 Magazine includes two nice gifts.
One is a nice storage box for Donkey Kong 64 and the old (or new) RAM expansion pak. The
other gift is a double game guide for Super Smash Bros and Jet Force Gemini. The magazine
itself includes top secret tips for Donkey Kong 64 as well as lots of previews. Brian Green
takes a look at games in the past which starred Mario and/or Luigi. So there's no good excuse
not to spend Ł2.95 on this brilliant magazine.

TEST DRIVE RALLY BITES THE DUST
Infogrames of North America has cancelled Test Drive Rally, aka Rallymasters, for the
Nintendo64. After the merger with Accolade, Infogrames changed the title of Rallymasters to
Test Drive Rally and the game was supposed to first of a Test Drive serie on the Nintendo
console.
Why the game was scrapped is not known. An Infogrames representative, who ign64.com spoke
with, said that "the game simply didnt meet our standards". Well judging from the screenshots
the game looked very impressive, but I bet we all remember V-Rally '99 which sure wasnt
that enjoyable to play.
Well Test Drive Rally enters the crowded list of scrapped N64 game projects. Let's hope a
beta of this game somehow reaches the hands of copier owners and collectors.

ENTERING FEBRUARY
Well the past month was a bit boring, when looking at the release list atleast. We did get
a sequel to the super selling Mario Party, called something as innovative as Mario Party 2.
Harrier 2001 which was supposed to be out in January got delayed until late 2000, leaving
Mario Party 2 as the only US release this month. Europe got a few games which was already
out in the US, such as A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2. German and French versions of these
were also released for the scene's rom collectors. The release group "Menace" once again
gave us a handfull of Japanese games, seems like they're our only source for japanese releases
at the moment. Unfortunately I havent been able to check out any of these so I cannot comment
wether the games were nothing but crap or there actually was a few good ones.
We've just entered February, in case someone didnt know, and it seems like this month will
bring a bit more joy among copier owners, here's the US release list taken from ebworld.com:
Vigilante 8: Second Offense (ACTIVISION) 2/03/00
Ridge Racer 64 (NINTENDO) 2/15/00
Tarzan (ACTIVISION) 2/16/00
