Z64 overheating mod

 

           
The Z64 from different sides

 

Unscrew all 8 screws, the longer ones are from the Z64 casing, the shorter ones are to keep the zip drive in place.
Open it up easily, the opposite site from the zip drive first.


Opened up it should look like this. Locate the memory socket at the top of the PCB.

       
Scratch off a piece of the PCB shielding at the right side of the D2 marking.
Be cautious to stay within the traces! DON'T CUT THE TRACES!
Solder a piece of wire to the PCB and solder the other side of the wire to the capacitator as shown in the picture.

   
   
Locate Q3 on the PCB and solder legs B and E together to short them.

All is done now and the Z64 can be assembled again. Be sure to attach the zip drive first,
then put on the top casing on, starting at the side of the zip drive, and all should fit into place.
