Things to note before using Doctor V64 Junior:
- Doctor V64 requires power supply to retain data in DRAM, it will not work without power
supply. There are three sources of power inputs and the priorities are as follows:
1. N64TM - Doctor V64 Junior will detect power from N64TM
first and consume power supply from it.
2. DC power supply - Doctor V64 Junior requires a 7V-12V, 150ma or above DC power
supply. The center point polarity of the power supply plug to the Doctor V64 Junior is
negative (-).
3. Battery - Doctor V64 Junior operates on either six standard 1.5V AA size batteries
or six 1.2V AA size rechargeable batteries. When not in used with N64TM,
Doctor V64 Junior is able to retain data up to 10 hours with six 1.5V AA size Alkaline
batteries. When the N64TM is turned on, Doctor V64 Junior
consumes power from N64TM and not batteries even when the
battery switch is turned on.
4. Doctor V64 Junior will not retain data when there is no power and the power
indicator will not light up. The 'DrJrWin' program will not work and will display an error
message 'No Port Found!!!'
- Use a 25 pins 'straight through' printer extension cable or a 25 pins data switch cable
and do not use 'Laplink' cable as it is not compatible to the hardware. Make sure that
both ends of the cable are male. Recommended cable length is 6ft, cable up to 20ft is
supported but not recommended.
- Please set computer parallel/printer port to EPP mode. Consult your computer
manufacturer for information on switching the parallel/printer port to EPP mode.
- DS1 is required for saving SRAM memory and DX256 is required for EEPROM save memory.
Insert DS1 and DX256 first before inserting the original cartridge into the Doctor V64
Junior.
- Both DS1 and DX256 are 100% compatible and can be inserted together into the Doctor V64
Junior. Instructions for using Doctor V64 Junior:
1. Make sure your Doctor V64 Junior is connected to a power source, DC power supply or
battery. (DC power supply and batteries are not included in the package).
2. Attached a 25 pin straight through printer extension cable from PC to Doctor V64
Junior.
3. Run the 'DrJrWin' Windows 95/98 program, click on the 'Write' icon and select a N64TM
format ROM file, then click the 'Open' icon to load the N64TM format ROM file into the
Doctor V64 Junior. To run 'DrJr' DOS program, type 'DrJr <filename>'.
4. After the ROM file has been loaded, insert a standard N64TM
cartridge into the slot on the back of Doctor V64 Junior. If the ROM file requires SRAM or
EEPROM to save, please insert DS1 or DX256 into the slot first before inserting the
original game cartridge.
5. Turn on the N64TM to run the ROM file. It is not necessary
to switch off the battery power switch of the Doctor V64 Junior when in use with N64TM
as it consumes power from N64TM instead of batteries.
6. To retain data after using the Doctor V64 Junior on the N64TM,
make sure that either DC power supply is attached or batteries are inserted before turning
off the N64TM. If using batteries, make sure the switch is
turned on.
7. To load a new ROM file, please repeat step 1.
Functions of 'DrJrWin' (Windows 95/98) program:
?Write - Click on this icon to load a file. Select a file, click on the open button and
the file will automatically be loaded to Doctor V64 Junior DRAM.
?Test DRAM - Click on this icon to write and verify DRAM of the Doctor V64 Junior, it
will test if the DRAM is faulty.
?Disp Info - Display information of the ROM file that is currently in the Doctor V64
Junior.
?Verify - Use this to test if the ROM file in the DRAM is the same as the one on your
computer.
?CrcFix - This function calculate checksum for the ROM file that is loaded into the
Doctor V64 Junior DRAM. This function is usually not use, it is mainly for developer and
coders.
?Write Protect On/Off - When 'Write protect' is set to 'on', N64TM
will not have write access to Doctor V64 Junior DRAM. When write protect is set to 'off',
N64TM will have write access to the DRAM of the Doctor V64 and
this will allows coders and programmers to do coding. Default setting is set to 'On'.
?Cartridge On/Off - When set to 'On', it will enable N64TM to
read the original game cartridge. When set to 'Off', N64TM will
have no access to original game cartridge. Default is set to 'Off'.
?Offset - This allows users to specify an address that the ROM file is to be loaded.
E.g. If user wants to run an emulator, the emulator can be loaded into the first 2 megs
and user can then specify that the ROM file to be loaded at address 0x200000. Functions of
'DrJr' (DOS) program:
Usage: drjr [-w] [-v] [-t] [-a] <filename>
-w : DRAM write protect disabled
-v : verify file data with DRAM data
-t : test DRAM
-a : enable cartridge and unprotect
