Q:
Unable to transfer file between PC and Doctor V64
A: Please make sure that you are using 'tpc2.exe' and not 'tpc.exe'. 'tpc2.exe' can
be downloaded from our download page in our web site. We suggest user to upgrade to the
latest BIOS version, in order to support all parallel/printer port modes (SPP, ECP and
EPP). If the Doctor V64 has BIOS prior to BIOS version 1.70, set the parallel/printer port
mode to Standard (SPP) and use a printer extension cable not longer than 6 feet. Doctor
V64 only support data switch/printer extension cable and we suggest that the cable length
is not longer than 6 feet. Standard parallel/printer port that are built-in in PC's
motherboard can usually support up to 6 ft cable, if the PC has a separate independent
parallel/printer I/O card, cable up to 15 ft can be used. Doctor V64 does not support
Lap-Link cable.
Q: How
to upgrade the BIOS from CD
A: To upgrade a Doctor V64 with BIOS 1.52 and before, burn a CD-R with ONLY the BIOS
inside. Press the 'CH' button before pressing the 'Play' button, then follow the screen
instruction. For BIOS 1.53 and after, just burn a CD-R with the upgraded BIOS, load the
BIOS like any other ROM files and follow the screen instruction.
Q: How
to upgrade BIOS from PC
A: Use 'tpc2.exe' and send the BIOS to the Doctor V64 like any other ROM files. The
Doctor V64 will automatically upgrade the BIOS after the file has been fully transferred
to the Doctor V64.
Q:
Upgrading Faulty BIOS/ BIOS cannot upgrade
A: If the BIOS cannot be upgraded normally or is faulty due to a previous upgrade,
please use the 'biosup.r64' program that can be download from our web site. Load the BIOS,
it should load like a normal ROM file, and when it states 'You can play game now' load the
'biosup.r64' and follow the instruction on the screen.
Q:
Methods of Storing 'SAVE' data for Nintendo 64 system (How save game data are stored)
A: There are three ways that Nintendo 64 system save game memories. Only Doctor V64
provides you the Total Memory Solution. Please click on this link to see the 'Method of
Storing' FAQ.
Q: How
to upload .sav files? (Please refer to our 'Methods of Storing' FAQ)
A: EEPROM save game files stored in '.sav' files can be uploaded from the CD/PC to
the Cartridge's EEPROM or the DX256 by using the UPSRAM 1.2 program. Please refer to the
'Method of Storing' FAQ.
Q:
Software Emulators and MP3 player for Nintendo 64 system
A: Bung Enterprises Limited is not working on any software emulators and MP3
players. The recognition of emulator and MP3 file extension function is created in
advanced for coders who are working on emulators and MP3 players for N64. Please note that
all software emulators and MP3 players are not endorsed by or affiliated with Bung
Enterprises Limited. Do not e-mail us on where you can get the software emulators and MP3
players, please check out the web site on our link page for more information. Emulator
programs will never be available on our web site and will never be built into the original
BIOS release by Bung Enterprises Limited. For BIOS 1.90 and after, files with the
following extension .GB, .NES, .SFC, .GG, .MG, .PCE, .NEO, .MP3 and .EMU are automatically
loaded into the Doctor V64's DRAM starting from after the first 2Mbytes, starting address
will be 0x200000. This is to enable the emulator program to be loaded into the first
2Mbytes.
Q: Why
CD-R disc cannot be played on Doctor V64
A: Please make sure that the CD-R is recorded in MODE I, ISO 9660 format. If CD-R is
recorded in MODE II format, press the '|<<' button before pressing the 'play'
button.
Q: How
to use save (.sav) files
A: Regardless of a 64bit game EEPROM save (.sav) file being downloaded from the
internet or CD-ROM, it can be uploaded to cartridge's EEPROM or one of the selected bank
on the DX256 with Doctor V64 and 64bit game system, it can be easily uploaded with the
program Upsram 1.2. UpSram 1.2 can be downloaded from the Internet. To upload the '.sav'
file to the DX256 or cartridge's EEPROM, load the '.sav' into Doctor V64 either from
CD-ROM or PC download, then load UPSRAM 1.2 and just turn on the N64to run it and the save
data will be uploaded into the cartridge's EEPROM or the selected DX256 bank. After the
save data has been uploaded, turn off the 64bits game system, load and run the respective
game and user can play it with the save data that has just been uploaded. (Please note: If
you have uploaded an .sav file to DX256, you got to do it only once, when playing another
new game, switch to a new bank then switch it back when you want to play the game again)
Q: VCD
movies playback not clear and smooth
A: We suggest users not to play pirated VCD movies, as most of the VCD qualities are
poor. Not all CD-ROM drives works perfect with the Doctor V64 for VCD playback. All
original VCD movies work fine with the Doctor V64 CD-ROM drives sold by Bung Enterprises
Limited. If the CD-ROM drive in the DoctorV64 is not the standard CD-ROM drives from Bung
Enterprises Limited, playing back VCD movies might not be clear and smooth. We suggest
user to use branded Japanese brand CD-ROM like 'Panasonic', 'Hitachi', Mitsumi, etc. for
perfect VCD movie playback.
Q: How
to convert captured VCD movie still image to .bmp, .gif, .tif, .jpg, etc file format
A: The captured still image from VCD playback cannot be saved into other format. The
captured still image is for displaying as slide show on the Doctor V64 only.
Q: How
to capture game image
A: It is not possible to capture the game image, the capture function is only for
VCD movie playback only.
Q:
Sound is distorted or irregular during VCD movie playback and while playing game
A: Some VCD movies and games are not compatible with the Spatializer 3D Surround
Sound chip built into the Doctor V64. We suggest user to switch to 'Mono' or 'By Pass'
mode when playing back VCD movies or game that do not work with the Spatializer 3D chip.
Q: How to transfer EEPROM save
data to a computer and how to extract an '.sav' file
A: The following is for advance user who has good computer knowledge only. It is
possible to Transfer EEPROM and DX256 save data to PC with Doctor V64. As the Doctor V64
only support transferring save data from DX256 to PC, to transfer cartridge's EEPROM save
data to PC, it must be transferred to DX256 first. Do not slot the DX256 into the 64bits
game system, use SRAM Manager 2.0 to transfer cartridge's EEPROM save data into the
controller pak, then slot in the DX256 and use SRAM Manager 2.0 to transfer the save data
into the selected DX256 bank. Plugged the DX256 directly into the slot on top of the
Doctor V64 where the 50-pin connector is usually slot into. Go to the Doctor V64 menu
screen and select the 'DX256 Upload to PC' function, then use tpc2.exe or Rtools on the PC
to accept the save data from DX256. All 256 banks on the DX256 will be saved as a single
file on the PC. It is good to save in bank O_15 if it is not used, as it will be easier to
extract the save data, it has the memory address of 00000H. Extract a specific bank's save
data from a DX256 file on the PC, each bank is 512 bytes and O_15 has the start memory
00000H, O_14=00200H, O_13=00400H, ??., O_1=01C00H, O_16=01E00H, N_15=02000H, ??.,
A_15=1C000H, ??, P_15=1E000H, ??, P_1=1EC00H, P_16=1EE00H. Please note that P-16 is
designed to pass through (By Pass) the DX256 and 64bits game will read the save data on
cartridge's EEPROM instead, but when it writes, it writes to both P-16 and cartridge's
EEPROM. Give your friends your save data by simply extracting out the 512bytes from the
DX256 file and save it as a file by itself with the extension '.sav' and give it to your
friends or release it on the Internet.
