Drivers & Stuff
Drivers for Basic operation
Since the Adaptoid is a standard HID USB joystick device, it does not require any special drivers to operate. You can install it using the drivers which come with your operating system. When installed this way all the Adaptoid's features are available except for the Rumble Pak, Memory Pak and Configurator features.
Please note that the Adaptoid will NOT work on Windows 95, since there is no HID support in that operating system.
For the Adaptoid to work on MacOS, you must have version 1.7.3 or higher of Apple's InputSprocket driver. This is the version which comes with MacOS 9.0. If you have an earlier version of MacOS, you can download a GameSprockets update from this page on Apple's web site. You might also want to try out USB overdrive. It's not required, but it has a lot of nifty features and we find it to be useful.
Rumble, Mempack & Keymapper Windows driver
This driver will enable the Rumble Pak and Memory Pak features of the Adaptoid, and includes the Configurator for mapping controls to keypresses or mouse movements. If you have a Rumble Pak inserted in the N64 controller while you are playing a Windows PC game that has DirectX force feedback, it will rumble to the game's force feedback commands.
The driver also extends your computer's filesystem to allow access to game saves stored in a N64 Memory Pak. To transfer game saves to and from a Memory Pak, you just open up an explorer window and drag & drop the game saves from the special Adaptoid folder. You can also open up the Adaptoid folder from the Adaptoid icon which will appear in the "My Computer" folder.
The latest driver is 2.0.1 which includes the Adaptoid Configurator, a Keyboard and Mouse mapping utility. The keyboard and mouse support has been completely reworked to provide much better compatability with modern games. This driver is for Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000 and Windows XP. See the readme file for details on what's new in this version.
