V64
This is the first version of a Nintendo 64 backup unit, it was manufactured by Bung and later dropped when the company ceased business. It was a unit consisting of a cdrom drive for storing ROM images and some special carts (also made by Bung) that allowed people to save games. These cards came in 2 flavours before the dismiss of the V64: one for EEPROM type battery backups and one for SRAM saves. This type of saving implies of course some management software to properly store saves data on those carts.
The menu driven interface is not controllable by the Controller but is operated from the buttons at the top of the unit. Even thoung much more limited than the CD64, the V64 offered some nifty features available only on it: in the menu of the unit there's also an option for watching Video CDs from the V64 CD Rom drive using the internal processor of the Nintendo 64, while the back offered some video / audio output to connect to other equipment.
The internal RAM used for emulating the carts was proprietary developed, you cannot use standard 72pin SIMMS in it. A shame, as it is no longer produced and people could have some real trouble in replacing broken parts. It was first shipped with 128 megabits but later memory upgrade were released to bring the memory up to 256 megabits.
Please note that the DS1 adapter later developed by UFO Company is perfectly compatible with the V64.
