Make your NES "Universal"
Underground Console Mods
By: Robert Ivy
Items you will need before you begin:

1. A soldering Iron or an Exacto knife
2. Standard small phillips head screwdriver
This has got to be one of the easiest mods I have ever done.
Most of the hard work goes into dissassembling the NES!

Disassemble your NES (remove all of the metal shielding, etc...)
until you have reached the logic board. Gently raise the board and
turn it over, you should now be looking at some IC chips. Locate
chip "U10".
see photo below
Chip "U10" is the lockout chip, this is the chip we will be
dealing with. Locate pin 4 on the side of the chip facing the
RF box. Gently cut pin 4 from the board and raise it so it
doesn't make a connection. Thats it! If you want to be
professional you can run this to a ground.
How do I check the mod if I don't have any PAL games yet?
To check the mod, all you need to do is turn on your NES
without a game cartridge inserted. If the screen doesn not
flicker, then you have a PAL and NTSC playable NES. If the
screen still flickers, check again to make sure that pin 4 is not
connected to the logic board.
Perform this mod AT YOUR OWN RISK! I am not responsible for any damages! I'm giving you the information, you do what you will with it.
