>> PALadin V3.1 << History ---------------------------------- V1.0 08.12.1998 First release V2.0 10.12.1998 Added country-check-fix [/f] Autodetect rom-type (NTSC or PAL) (If code is 'P' or 'D' i assume it's PAL otherwise NTSC - dunno if those two are all PAL-codes - msg me if you know more) [/r] added: Change videotable to opposite rom-type No default-action anymore: If no action then works as checksum-calculator V2.1 22.08.1999 Country-code 'X' is now treated as PAL (dunno if right) /f in combination with /p, /f or /m will do to the corresponding country-check-fix (/p = force to NTSC = PAL-Fix) V2.2 02.09.1999 Better country-check-fixing-routine "should" now work with every rom :) V3.0 09.10.1999 Rewritten most of the code Backup is written before file-processing occurs That makes it slower than older versions but also more safe (fixes bug when using PALadin without any options) Assuming rom is NTSC if country-code is not 'E' or 'J' /c trys to crack the 1080-bootcode-protection pretty useless from now on, because there surely won't be any further "only-1080-bootcode-protection"-roms But at last it works with some: 1080 PAL (starts but can't race) DKR (sound garbled) Ken Griffey Jr.'s Slugfest Pokemon Snap PAL Pokemon Snap JAP Pokemon Stadium 2 Smash Brothers JAP This provides of course no save-fixes and is only implemented for my work and curiosity! Don't ask to improve it!!! I got my infos from Titaniks cracks and ah yeah... ...BADFACE-Stuff indeed helped a bit :) Titanik: Still waiting for you're announced docus ;) /iXX Nice idea from Redbox If a rom is filled till the end with important data, PALadin can't append his fixing-code. I've build in a simple recognizing for used space and provide a msg about the problem and you can then increase the rom-size (XX = # MBits) Shouldn't be needed very often (till now only MO World League Soccer) /a+ and /a- Another idea from Redbox Force (no-)anti-alias-modes But this only changes 2D-stuff - no 3D! I don't see any differences on my TV but maybe it's me ;) /z writes the screen-output (and some debug-info) to a file named Checksum-Calculation only occurs with standard-bootcode V3.1 12.10.1999 /xa Generate APS-File (romname.aps) Also deactivates direct patching on rom and backup-creation Meanwhile bigger manual ---------------------------------- [ What is this ? ] This proggy simply converts the videotables (used by most of all yet released roms) between NTSC/PAL/MPAL. It also fixes the country-protection some games have. ("This game is not designed for this video-system") Additionally it recalculates the rom-checksum and does some other things... [ Usage ] Type PALadin without any parameters to get the option-list :) Example: "PALadin /r fxzero.usa" will convert fxzero.usa to PAL and saves the original rom in fxzero.bak or: "PALadin /n /b /f fxzero.pal" will convert fxzero.pal to NTSC, doesn't create backup and fixes country-check or: "PALadin /f fxzero.pal" will fix only the country-check or: "PALadin fxzero.pal" will only rebuild the checksum [ What do I need this for ? ] This tool changes the DISPLAY from 60Hz ntsc to 50Hz pal and vice versa. You won't need to do this if your television is capable of displaying PAL-60Hz-signals. If you have a Pal-N64 and can't play a NTSC-rom, the reason could probably be a country-code-protection. PALadin fixes this, too. You don't have to convert videotables to fix country-protection; Those are only for display-problems. [ Some technical stuff ] Usually the sound of a PAL'ed NTSC-rom is garbled - that's because the soundroutine is optimized for 60Hz and creates soundbuffers which are to small for 50Hz. This produces the anoying "clicks". It's not possible to make a generic-fixing-routine for that. :( There are to many different sound-routines on the market. (Of course all know routines could be build in...but that wouldn't be a generic fix! - I also got to many false fixes when I tried it) It's also _NOT_ a matter of sound-tables or something like that. Changing the Videotable doesn't change the sound!! The changed video-mode just isn't compatible with the used sound-settings Hope this stops the whining about PALadin being unable to fix sound and the requests for it in future versions :P There are Video-Fixes available which handle this problem.
