Road Rash was a massive game on the 3DO and Mega Drive format, and despite a poor showing on the Playstation there was an air of anticipation surrounding its N64 release by most of us. The first thing that becomes obvious when you play RR is the shocking plainess of the graphics, the 256Mbit cart certainly didn't get that size because its packed with textures but more the fact its full of MP3s, which is cool and brings back some memmories of Top Gear Overdrive. But despite the plain graphics, the relativly simple gameplay and the lack of variety in levels it is not a poor game. The fact that you get money after races to spend on new bikes and shit is a feature that is very welcome in every game that it graces, its a simple idea that keeps you coming back for more and it has made games like Off Road and Gran Turismo what they are. Be sure to use the 4MB expansion pack for this game as it makes the blurry graphics ultra sharp without slowdown, which is something we rarely see in games. As I said, its not a poor game but just like Mario Kart 64 it isnt the game that it should have been.
