Ok, I want to know if anyone else has encounterd this since nobody seems to be posting here.  When mario kart advance is loaded on a flash advance cart after about a minute or two of gameplay a high-pitched whine starts coming through the speaker.

Its because the cartridge cannot handle the data transfer speed. Get KaOS's crash patch, which slows the transfer speed down. (Dont apply the patch if you dont need it, as by design, it does slow the game down in places.)

Hi,

If you can get it to work without a patch even with a sound problem it's worth putting up with that! as on some levels on GP mode (snowland for example) it becomes unplayable!!!!! So just stick with it!

Errrm just wondering what version of the card you have as most have A5's with this problem I have an A4 and no problem!

No, most people don't have this "problem" at all.

It works fine for me on a AB5 cart, and it works for many people on AB4 carts.

Hi,

Sorry just stating a fact that on a message board I go to the majority of people who have said they have had problems with the sound looping are with A5's it might just be that they have posted more that people with A4's

I'm not sure what card I have but I have not had to apply any other crash patches for any other rom I have.  I wasn't even aware of the crash patches for quite some time and I thought it was odd as I never had a single crash.  All mario kart is doing is producing a high-pitched whine over every other sound in the game, untill you turn it off (it doesn't start right away).  I figure nintendo is smart enough to put in some checks for eeprom and give you grief if it only finds sram.

Hi,

Yeah never thought of that could be some kind of copy protection! But not likly!

If you want  to know what version your cart is and don't know how to check simply hold your cart up and in the very middle should be some letters and numbers mines AB4 and yours may be AB5!

On a side note the new 128m cards are out to order but it does not have EPROM support what a pile of crap that is then! and it also means theres no reason what so ever to upgrade!

Lack of EEPROM isn't a very big problem IMO. As long as developers continue to use Nintendo's libraries to programm their games the save code will stay the same and redirecting it to use SRAM will only be a matter of minutes, if not seconds. Dev'rs could of course implement "better" checks for EEPROM, but I doubt that it'll take very long until they'll get cracked with so many experienced coders on the GBA (and I'm not talking about Jurai, aka Mr. Cut-n-paste here...).

Hi,

Yeah you are right but it doen't give you much reason to upgrade now!!!! As there are no bigger games than 64m at the mo anyway!

If it is so easy as they say though in the statement why don't they include a EPROM to SRAM option in there program!

Hmmm I wonder if there next cards will have any improvements no more crashing probs?

The problem some of you seem to be having seems quite  strange.  I recently purchased my AB4 directly from CD64.com and I've been playing Mariokart Advance for ages (even managed to open up all 20 of the Snes tracks) and when I play the game, there are absolutely NO slowly what so ever, (even on that snow track on 150cc) no high-pitched buzzing, and no crashes.  Am I the only few in this group that can run Mariokart Advance flawlessly using the AB4?
