Title: no subject
Post by: ss_forces on 06/10/01 at 15:20:02
I wouldn't disagree with that website (CVG) or nintendo so quickly, they have a good point that the industry and it's followers are being hurt. There is a good case for both sides of the warez issue, (in both emu and backup cases) and my principles tell me as an individual to pay for what I use, and I don't mind paying for quality products that i enjoy and use often. I actually get more enjoyment from owning a cartridge than using a backup or emulating, as I find it easier (easier than it already may be) to pop in a cart and turn the machine on, than it is to download and configure an emulator to play at a desk on a keyboard or joystick (more configuring) - or than it is to load a rom and have to note save type, bootchip, or whatever crack/patch is necessary. It makes me happier owning the game and paying the money than stealing it and enjoying it less.

So the bottom line as I see it is, you do whatever the hell you want, and I'll do what I want to, that is, continue to support in my small way by paying for the products I enjoy and use often. Because from my point of view, when the laws on an issue arent being enforced, a person's principles are what governs their actions.
What are your principles?

Emulamers are the ones doing the harm.

A person with a copybox will use roms (same as the emulamer) but can also BUY games he likes (as you do) - the emulamer cannot do this, relying on crap PC emulation to play games.

If we made emulators illegal, that'd learn them.  Then turn off the web.  That'd doubly learn them.

I use some emulators, but I also own most of the consoles (20+).  There are some machines that don't have a copier, some that are too expensive and hard to find, and one that I have the hardware for (Genesis PC/XT Rom emulator), but don't have the motivation right now to figure out how to use it.

The emu scene went to shit once things got too easy to use (Win ports, frontends, guis), just like everything else.

heh

My point was primarily about hardware users; maybe I've got the wrong idea overall, but I spend more time playing with the hardware than I do playing the games. For some reason just playing a game isn't as fun (as it used to be<?>). Now I get bored soon into the game or don't start at all. I remember playing Sonic the Hedgehog through and getting every (possible) ring, how many games do that anymore? or "Adventure" on Atari XX (so long ago i forgot which model), or "Utopia" on the Intellivision. These days I'd rather while away the time making some interesting thing to produce some interesting effect with some old console from childhood. Maybe just getting old, who knows.
