HD-Mod Guide by PSaN (psan@sverige.nu) The HD: HD smaller or equal to 8.4gb (See "other info") ------------------------------------------------------- 1. Download Dos 5.0 Boot-disk: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm 2. Restart computer with the just the hd installed and the bootdisk in. 3. Start F-Disk and create primary partition. 4. Don´t allow big HDs. 5. Start creating your partitions, they should be about 2gb each. (max FAT16 size) 6. Restart computer and format each drive into FAT32 and name them: D1,D2,D3,D4. Install Bios ------------ 7. Download bios: http://n64.icequake.net/mirror/zmod.onestop.net/zbios.htm 8. Rename the bios image to z64bios.img and copy to a zip. 9. Install the new bios. 10. Take out your zip-drive and install your HD. Other info ---------- 11. If u got a 3.5" hd, then u have to take the power from an old computer power supply. 12. To get it too work with a 2.5" hd, just use an adapter from 2.5" to 3.5" (about 7$). 13. U can use two hds at the same time. To use a zip and a hd, just set the zip into slave. 14. This guide should work with bigger HDs than 8.4 But the Z64 should only be able to read the first 4 partitions. 15. My english sucks ;) 16. I might have missed something, email me about misstakes in the text and spelling errors) Troubleshooting --------------- 16. If the hd doesn't seem to work, keep the power on (hd), turn of the Z64, wait a minute and turn it on again. That was the only problem I had. 17. If the solution above doesn´t help, change HD. 18. If the solution above doesnät help, check your Z64 with a Zip-drive, if that doesn´t work, u z64 is broken :( 19. IF the above work, I don´t know =) Disclamer --------- 20. I just did this guide to be nice, don´t blame me if your Z64 doesn´t work after attempting this mod!! Credits ------- Milo, Dextrose, bootdisk.com, z64.com
